The first game he bowled, Greg Schultz didn't really have much of a look.  I guess he just needed a little more practice.

Congratulations to Schultz for winning this past weekend's Whitestone Lanes $10K In A Day Tournament from Whitestone Lanes.  In a 3-day, full weekend event with about 120 total entries, scores were expectedly and definitely on the low side.  After the 2nd day of action, the cut to the final bracket was only 633.  However, from there it crept up and Schultz was up to the challenge.

Schultz started his first squad shooting games of 161, 190 and 197 for a 632 with handicap.  Knowing this wasn't going to get him into the finals bracket, he decided to give it another run and entered the 6th and final squad of the tournament.  And that turned out to be a pretty good idea.  In that 6th squad, Schultz pumped out games of 188, 194 and 229 for a 695 with handicap and ended up being the 19 seed headed into the final 32 bracket.

In his round 1 match, he took down 14 seed Andre McDuffie 207 - 171.  In the second round, he eliminated 30 seed Dennis Flynn 196 - 172.  And in the quarterfinals, he triumphed over 11 seed Mike Reed 267 - 218,

In the semis, he took on Danny "Breezy" Santiago in a best of 3 format.  Breezy won the first game 209 - 206, but Schultz came storming back to take the 2nd game 282 - 167 and 230 - 184 in the third game to make it into the final match.

In the championship match, a best of 5 format, he took on tournament #1 seed Chris Chiarappa, who shot a 790 with handicap in qualifying to earn that spot.  Chiarappa was ready, winning the first game 219 - 190.  However, Chiarappa, who was very solid throughout the tournament, seemed to lose his way after that game, and Schultz won the next 3 games with scores of 244 - 198, 256 - 223 and 218 - 208 to win the 1st ever Whitestone Lanes $10K In A Day.

Before the finals started, the TD offered options and the finalists decided to split up the total entries rather than put $10K up top, so here are the cashers:

    • Chiarappa - $1,500
