For some, it's enough getting a check.  For others, it's enough just being there.  For Runk, enough is never enough.

With the PBA Players Championship Qualifying Rounds kicking off this weekend, many hopefuls were in high spirits entering Saturday's competition.  One such hopeful was Pennsylvania's own Brandon Runk.  Runk, who hails from Enola, PA and calls Imperial Lanes in Milton, PA his home, is known by many in the Northeastern Bowling Community mainly for his league bowling accomplishments.  With multiple honor score articles already to his name on Bowlage.com, he is no stranger to individual success.  And he went down to Virginia with the goal of continuing that success.

The PBA Players Championship East Region, being held this year at Bowlero West End in Richmond, VA, always brings out the best bowlers on the east coast, and this year was no exception.  With 94 bowlers entering the field, competition was at an all-time high.  The first 14 games, held on Saturday, were bowled on the PBA Chameleon pattern, a challenging, 39 foot pattern.  Using the Hammer Black Widow and the Purple Hammer, Runk started beautifully in the first 7-game block, pumping out scores of 231, 237, 225, 204, 269, 231 and 224, a +221 which was good enough to have him sitting in 2nd starting the second block.  And the second block was more of the same, with scores of 233, 245, 203, 225, 246, 237 and 265, which had him at +475 through 14 and actually sitting atop the leaderboard headed into the second day of qualifying.

The next 14 games, held earlier today, were bowled on the 45 foot Dragon pattern.  And once again, Runk was more than up for the challenge, posting scores of 229, 220, 236, 227, 260, 236 and 223 to put him at +706 for 21 games and back in 2nd place headed into the final 7 games of qualifying.  With the pressure firmly atop his shoulders headed into the final 7-game block, he once again shined through, posting a +190  and +896 for the 28 games, good enough for 2nd place overall in the East Region.  What this means is that, along with Graham Fach, Bill O'Neill, Kyle Troup and Patrick Dombrowski, he will find himself at Bowlero Euless next weekend in Texas where he will be participating in the Regional Finals with a chance to make the TV show on FS1 the following weekend and a chance at his first PBA title.
