Tommy Grunwald, the interim acting president of the New York Division for Federation Bowling, has canceled the remainder of the season following yet another team dropout.
The season started with 12 teams, however last week the fourth team dropped out, leaving only 8 remaining teams. Grunwald held a President's only meeting to determine if any other teams would be dropping and he was assured by all team heads that no others would be leaving.
That promise lasted a week.
A fifth team dropped out yesterday, leaving only 7 remaining teams. With an odd number of teams and no guarantee that others wouldn't be leaving, he decided to cancel the remainder of the season.
"Yea it was down to 7 teams from starting with 12 [and] people didn’t wanna finish with 7 and what's to say more teams don’t pull the same ish later on," Grunwald said.
"Just annoying wasted everyones time."
He clearly did not want to cancel the rest of the season, but given the situation, he really was put into a position where he didn't have a choice.
For those curious about the plans for the outstanding monies, Grunwald confirmed that a tournament is a potential idea that was brought up by a member.
"It makes the most sense to me give everyone a chance and pay like the top 3-4 teams. If I wind up splitting whatever is left evenly to all the teams after expenses it's gonna be peanuts for everyone and unfair for the teams up top."
Clearly Grunwald had the best interests of all teams involved at heart when making this decision. He said he will inform the remaining team presidents about the tournament idea in the near future.
