Multiple sources are reporting that the city council has approved the rezoning plan for Whitestone Lanes with hundreds of new apartments. This was the last approval required for a rezoning process that was proposed years ago, meaning the days are numbered for the beloved Queens bowling center.
The project will include 415 units of housing, and roughly 30% of it will be considered “affordable” at an average of 80% area median income or lower. At least 50% of the affordable units must be two bedrooms or more to accommodate the growing number of families in the area, according to the decision.
Owner and developer Marco Macaluso will still have to go through the normal construction hurdles and no timeline has been officially set, however with all required approvals procured, it's just a matter of time before the center closes for good.
