  8. "They knew my routine." That's what a Delaware treasurer is saying after he was held at gunpoint yesterday in front of Bowlerama Family Entertainment Bowling Center in New Castle. The treasurer, who requested anonymity for safety purposes, arrived at the bowling center on the last night of the league with over $55K+ in cash in his bag ready to pay out the league's prize fund. Upon leaving his vehicle, he was approached by a car with 2 individuals in it. The passenger got out of the car, walked up to the treasurer, pointed a gun at his head and demanded the money for the league. "100% someone set me up. They waited in the parking lot for 45 minutes for me. Because I brought 2 bags, my normal bag and another that had the [league money] and the handle broke and they thought they had the important bag." The thieves, apparently caught on bowling center camera security footage (which has been handed over to the Delaware State Police), arrived at the parking lot at 4:25PM, knowing that the treasurer usually arrives around 4:45PM. They waited until 5:13PM, which is when he arrived. "I always have a gray back pack with me. Crook insisted on that bag first, and then almost left before snatching the 2nd bag." That second bag contained the league prize fund. Apparently the crook assumed the treasurer had the money in his normal, everyday back pack and so they demanded that bag first. The treasurer handed it over. The thieves, however, weren't done. "[He] turned to go, turned back, pointed [his] gun at my chest, [said] 'give me that one too,' snatched it, drops it trying to get back around the car, fleas in car." The thieves actually had both bags, but the handle on the money bag broke while the passenger thief was running back to the car. Assuming the league money was in the book bag, the thief chose not to retrieve the dropped bag and instead fled with the book bag, which contained a laptop, clipboard and some league recap sheets. The treasurer picked up the money bag and called 9-1-1, who apparently were on scene within 12 minutes of the call. The passenger thief is described as a black male in his late 20s to early 30s. He was not wearing a mask and apparently dropped a cell phone during the robbery, which was retrieved by detectives. The driver never emerged from the car. The prize fund, which was in the bag that was not stolen, was distributed to the league later that night. "Detectives on the case believe they'll catch the criminals." If anyone has any information, please contact Detective J. Dempsey by calling (302) 365-8472. The DSP has an article as well up on their website, which can be viewed by Clicking Here! Update as of 7:30pm: I spoke to the lead detective a short while ago on the phone. He told me that while the photos they have are a bit grainy, they're making strides and they fully expect to catch the perpetrators in due time. A little while later, I spoke to another source involved in the situation who confirmed that they had also spoken to the detective and that the vehicle the suspects were driving had been identified and located. I will update this article with any further updates as they are received. Update as of 2:45pm (05/15/2024): The car involved in the situation has been identified, located and is currently in police custody, as I'm told by a source closely involved. The owner of the vehicle has also been identified and was not a random passerby, but rather (as presumed) someone who had direct knowledge of the league operations and of the routine of the league treasurer. I am, however, told that the owner of the vehicle, who is currently not yet in police custody, is not actually a bowler, but rather someone who is known to hang out at the center.
  9. An oiling snafu during the Sunday early squad of the LIUSBC Annual Championships at AMF Centereach Lanes was caught midway through the squad and Tournament Directors were forced to cancel the squad amid growing complaints. According to a source familiar with the situation, a hose was disconnected from the oiling machine, which caused a peculiar pattern to be laid out that had little to no oil in the middle of the lane. When the Tournament Director was made aware of the situation, realizing the bowlers in this squad had little to no chance of cashing, a decision was made whereby the bowlers in the squad were given the choices of (1) bowling in the later squad, (2) coming back in 2 weeks to bowl, or (3) getting a full refund. Due to the timing of the decision, which came almost 4 games into the squad, the remainder of the squad was canceled and many bowlers decided to forgo bowling in the Singles portion of the event. Why the hose was disconnected from the oil machine remains a mystery. This also comes amid a separate situation that occurred during the Saturday squad, in which a team allegedly showed up an hour late for the squad and were not only allowed to bowl, but were also allowed to (1) bowl unopposed, (2) get practice prior to bowling even though they were an hour late, and (3) not given any type of repercussion (zeroes?) for arriving late. And, according to another source, a member of this late-arriving doubles team took the lead in one of the events, but this claim is unsubstantiated. However, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, this particular late-arriving team called prior to their lateness and let the TD know they'd be late as there was a car accident. The TD decided because of the situation, they'd be allowed to bowl late. Nevertheless, it appears the LIUSBC tried to do the right thing by offering refunds for the oiling situation on Sunday. If you were one of the people who bowled in that squad and left early, please reach out to Jayu Kulkarni for more information. Update (1:54pm): After posting this article, the LIUSBC Facebook account posted this message below:

Low cash is double your money. Lanes: We have 24 lanes so we have to make it out at 72 entries (assuming we come even remotely close to that number).
