It was a very exciting day at Amity Bowl today. At the end of 4 games the cut to the top 16 ended up being 981 with handicap. There were 5 junior entries today. There was a separate singles prize fund for them. The winner of that was Billy Parker IV who had a great day rolling scores of 249, 258, 189 and 203. With his handicap his total was 1103. Billy won a $150 scholarship prize for his performance.
In the main tournament the 16 qualifiers drew numbers to determine doubles partners for the bracket match play finals. Gary Kurensky of Norwalk, CT and Brandon Whitney also of Norwalk, CT teamed up to take home the title. They defeated the team of Dave Martorella and Roland Matthews 259-230. They then took down the team of George Bakshys and Michael Armstrong 244-217. In an exciting championship match they took on the team of Jonathan Graham from Trumbull, CT and Steve DePalma of East Haven, CT. Kurensky and Whitney combined for 11 strikes in that match to defeat their opponents 290-268. For their performance the Champions took home $900 as well as King of The Hill Champion Jerseys and free entries into a future event. The runners up took home $600.
In the King of The Hill Match Gary and Brandon had to bowl a head to head match because the reigning King was not able to be there. In that match Brandon Whitney defeated Gary Kurensky to win the $200 jackpot and becomes the new King.
